Diadochokinetic (DDK) syllable rate is the measure of a client’s ability to make rapidly alternating speech movements.
WHY:
assess motor and speech planning abilities
Measured in 2 ways:
count the syllables produced within a predetermined number of seconds
measure the seconds it takes to produce a predetermined number of syllables
How To:
Repeat the target syllable (e.g., /pa/, /ta/, /ka/) as quickly as possible until told to stop
“GO” & start stopwatch
STOP after 20 reps
10 repetitions of /ptk/.
also can use pattycake or buttercup
